Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch joined Gov. Charlie Baker to celebrate the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center’s 50th anniversary tea ceremony at the Pao Arts Center in Chinatown.

The Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center is an organization that services Asian immigrants and Asian Americans in Greater Boston. The organization serves 8,000 people in four locations in Boston and Quincy. Asians make up more than a quarter of Quincy’s population, and they own about a quarter of the city’s small businesses. More than a third of the city’s public school students are Asian.

In the Chinese culture, tea is a symbol of welcoming, hospitality, and community.

Also in attendance at Friday’s event were Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, Boston City Councilors Ed Flynn and Michelle Wu, State Representative Aaron Michlewitz, Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center Executive Director Giles Li.

The Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center says it delivers holistic, family-centered and culturally competent programs to thousands of people of all ages each year.
In 2014, the center opened its Quincy site at 275 Hancock St.. to meet the growing needs of the local community.
